We are pleased to announce the launch of Female Fyi and www.femalefyimag.com. Female Fyi is a lifestyle magazine for lesbians and pro-gay women with an interest in the lesbian community in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York. Female Fyi is a digital, bi-monthly lifestyle magazine featuring, in each issue, content on Art, Design, Fashion, Food, Health & Fitness, Politics, and Travel. Every issue of Female Fyi will also feature an array of amazing female personalities, celebrity interviews and lesbian nightlife, which is housed within our fashionable and user-friendly website.
A little bit of history: Female Fyi first took life in 1994 as a free lesbian publication in Los Angeles and was founded by Rita Boyadjian. After a few issues, Mia Dinelly joined forces with Boyadjian to expand the publication and distribution of Female Fyi to San Francisco and New York. In 2001, Dinelly left the magazine to become the founder and publisher of Malibu magazine from 2002 to 2009. Not long after, Female Fyi left the streets in 2002, and was never re-established.
Fast-forward: Mia Dinelly decided that after her run with Malibu magazine — and that although 7 years had passed without Female Fyi on the streets — there was room in 2009 for a new title based on the original Female Fyi approach. With Boyadjian’s blessing, Dinelly decided that she would fly solo, and re-launch Female Fyi in November 2009. After reaching out to the community, Mia says, “I got a lot of emails from old readers excited about the news that I wanted to bring it back. It was at that moment that I knew it was the right thing to do.”
Female Fyi was very popular back in the day, thanks to its edgy, straightforward approach that not all lesbians are one-way, and being one of the first to branch out with a unique and fashion-conscious flair — different from the rest. Dinelly believes that the current version will have the same specialized appeal, focusing on gay women and pro-gay women that you may not know — that you should know. “Our approach doesn’t scream ‘we are gay,’ but rather: we are interesting women with interesting lives.
The one difference now, Dinelly says, is that Female Fyi is going green by going digital, leaving print publication behind. The one similarity? Female Fyi was complimentary then, and it will be complimentary now. You can come to www.femalefyimag.com and read each issue, free of charge. No subscription, no password, and no cutting down of trees.
